Plug up the nose...?

Post a new topicby thom8641 on Mon Oct 15, 2007 1:05 am

I am away at school and cannot make it to the dentist for another month, but believe that I am suffering from bruxism. I wake up with clenching and my jaw is sore every day. Others around me have noticed me grinding when I take naps. I'm doing what I can until I get to the dentist, but it's really becoming a pain (literally). I've tried painkillers and a warm cloth, and every night I wear the retainer that was given to me when I got my braces off (in the hopes that I will save my teeth...). My jaw aches horribly - does anyone have any advice to alleviate this in the meantime? I am not under any stress at all and can't figure out what could cause it. The only thing I have tried that helps is plugging up my nose before bed with Kleenex's. If forces me to keep my mouth open to breathe, and thus prevents clenching or grinding for more than a few seconds. The only downside to this is that I wake up with a dry mouth. Has anyone tried this?

if it works it sounds like a good temporary solution, a humidifier near you bed may help with the dry mouth
