I have hypoglycemia. this can cause me to clench my jaw during the night. I had some serious trouble, (ie; neck and jaw pain) and it was so bad at one point that my jaw clicked everytime I opened my mouth. It would also deviate to one side. (My children found this amusing.)I discussed this with the Chiropractor and the dentist. The dentist made a bite guard for me, and the chiropractor kept my neck adjusted regularly, as well as the jaw joint itself. The bite guard was probably the most effective because it prevented the clenching which was causing the other problems. The guard was not the traditional "Hockey" one. this one is custom made to fit only the two front teeth. I can actually close my mouth over it. although I do often dream I have a piece of hard candy in my mouth. It is not bothersome to falling asleep, or staying asleep. It took some time for me to be symptom free but I have to extol the benefits of the "new" bite guard. Ask your dentist about the "NTI" Sheribaby
