Post a new topicby livingwith on Mon Aug 25, 2008 1:15 pm

I have been continuously diagnosed with chronic insomnia and variously treated for it with no real effect. Now, after six years and me constantly explaining that once i GET to sleep i’m ok (its the getting to sleep and getting up thats the problem at a socially acceptable time thats the problem) they’ve finally decided it might be Delayed sleep phase syndrome instead.

Aleee,
i wrote a note here about a month or so ago, i read your post and i think you were like me, you are now glad your problem has a name. i don't know your age, but i'm almost 50 and i've lived like this my entire life, as far back as i can remember. i do not think there is a cure. i'm lucky due to my profession of being an RN. when i got out of nursing school in 1986 i worked nights for about 7 yrs, it was great. i did my shopping, cleaning, repotting plants, cooking and just about everything at night. and that was before we had Walmart where we live. we had a few big grocery stores that stayed open all night. then after my kids were born, i had to stop working nights. just wasn't compatible to raising kids, kids have to go to school in the daytime. i saw a post just before yours from the mother of a young man who is homeschooled because of his hours of sleep interferring with school (i assume). anyway, what i'm getting at is that i don't think you need to worry yourself with trying to cure it. i truly believe that it can't be cured, you just have to learn to live with it or around it. good luck to you, i hope some of this has given you some peace of mind, it did me when i first discovered it!! kind regards, melanie
