finally….I’ve had sleeping issues for most of my life (I’m 21) but it’s never been an actual PROBLEM until now.
I’ve never been able to fall asleep and wake up at “normal” times but never thought anything of it because I didn’t have any REAL responsibilities until I quit college and had to start supporting myself. Re: finally….I have had this delayed sleep phase syndrome off and on for the past 15 years. What sometimes helps if I can't sleep is standing next to my bed in the dark and holding certain exercise positions. For example, lowering myself down- sorta a half squat- and holding that position for as long as I can. Then extending my right leg and then my left leg to the front, side and back and holding each position as long as I can. Then doing the same with my arms. I also lift my shoulders towards my neck and hold that position and also do some stretching exercises- also very slowly and holding each position as long as I can - touching toes, lunges, torso twists and reaching out with arms. After about 15 to 20 minutes of doing this (in total darkness) I am so tired that I usually fall asleep.
