12:30am, the beginning of my day

Post a new topicby LadyRiggy on Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:37 am

Hello everyone, i'm new here but certainly not new to DSPS. I've had insomnia since I was a baby and didn't start to get symptoms of the syndrome until I was about 13. I actually remember when it was, i was just getting done with Christmas vacation and stayed up all night watching tv and when it came time to go to school I was fast asleep. I battled it all throughout school and barely graduated since I slept through most of my classes. I ended up failing out of college because I slept through all my classes and stayed up all night. Now I'm on disability because I just can't function normally. I've done light therapy, chronotherapy, melatonin and been on literally every drug there is both prescribed and over the counter. absolutely nothing helps. its very discouraging because no sleep center will take me. they keep telling my doctor they only treat narcolepsy and apnea.

just wanted to vent.....

Okay, you have the same thing I do. I have not found any cure, and have had this for as long as I can remember. Lunesta will put me to sleep (twice the normal dose) but I feel like a zombie all day regardless of the sleep I get at night. Even if I do not sleep and stay awake all day, the next night I will wake up about 11:30 pm. I've posted my experiences as I am new here, and have barely survived the job world, mainly by working very late hours. There's a movie called "Wide Awake," have you seen it? Docs seem to recommend some type of chronotherapy but nothing has worked for me. I guess you've tried everything?
