Do I Have DSPS or am i lazy?Hello, i am new to this forum so i will explain my situation.
I am a 19 year old male who has had trouble getting out of bed in the mornings since i can remember, this problem has turned a A LOT worse the past year and i tend to miss whole days of college because i fail to waken up. I set 3 different alarm clocks but end up switching them off and going back to the wonderfull land of nod.My situation at home is ok, i have lots of friends and a small family(although my dad died 2 month ago) but i do not think its depression My family call me very lazy and it makes me really annoyed, i can be lazy at times but somehow i think theres more to it than that. For example i missed college today because i got up at 12pm ,i went to bed at 11pm but did not fall asleep until 2am.I feel really guilty as i always do because im on my final year at college and getting my HND qualification is essential to me and i want to make my dad proud. Ive had enough of this problem, i go to bed at night positive and encouraging myself to please waken up but it doesnt happen. If anyone could give me some suggestions as to what to do i would be thankfull (Incase you are wondering why my mum cant get me up in mornings its because she is disabled). Thanks
Re: Do I Have DSPS or am i lazy? No, you are not lazy. If you can afford it/have insurance, you should see a doctor who should do some blood tests to see if you have any problems/lack vitamins, etc. At your young age, your body could still be growing and hormones "stuff" could be a problem--I am not a doctor. You should follow the "sleep hygiene" suggestions on this site. If you don't fall asleep within 20 minutes in bed---get up and do something relaxing (read/TV with minimal lights)--staying in bed will only get you more wired. Cut out caffeine and alcohol. I have an alarm clock in my bathroom and jump right in the shower. I also have friends/relative phone me at wake up time on important days.
Good luck.
