Finally has a name!

Post a new topicby notb4noon on Sun Oct 12, 2008 9:22 pm

I am glad to know my lifelong battle (38 years) with sleep finally has a name! And ever since I was 19 I have just done shift-work. I prefer the swing, but can do nite-shift no problem. But mornings? fahget about it! Light has no impact on my sleeping- I can sleep with a bright light shining right in my face! Melatonin has no impact either. But when I can sleep when my body wants to- usually 1 or 2 am and get up at around 10- then I sleep great every time, get up singing and am productive all day. As a kid, school was torture and I lived for the weekend! I tried experiments, like sleeping from 6pm and then getting up at 6am, but was still tired and headachy all morning. Most people slump in the afternoon, but I am revving up! My lowest production times are between 8 and 11 a.m. I always knew my system was backward, defended myself to my Mom (ardent morning person), and never tried to change myself. My 18 years in school was proof that nothing would work to get me on a normie schedule. So I have just worked the swing for as long as I can remember- night shift too. I feel so much better when I sleep the way I am supposed to. Looking forward to this forum! My partner thinks this DSPS is a crock, but she doesn't understand that this has completely SHAPED my life- it is not merely a matter of wanting to sleep in. My Mom has finally come to believe it after witnessing my sleep behavior all those years. Bless you all and happy sleeping!!
