Is it possible for a person to be tuned to <8 hrs a night?

I don't know if I have DSPS or some other condition and the only help I've found are sleep centers. I can actually see an "I hate CPAP" sign from my balcony but they can't help me and i was wondering if anybody has encountered a condition similar to mine and can point me towards an expert more suited to my particular circumstances. Here's a comprehensive description of my circumstances:
- First, i am a case study for a DSPS candidate. I spent three years in college going to class durign the day, sleeping from 6:00P-10:00P, then working 10:30PM - 7:00 AM. I graduated as an industrial engineer so immediately following my three years of day shift/night shift I spent 7 years in a career that had me flying to Asia four times a year for 3-4 weeks at a time. I couldn't handle the time away from home so I changed careers and have left all the effects behind with the exception to the damage to my sleeping habits.
- My current condition is that I frequently have difficulty falling asleep before 3AM-4AM and I have difficulty sleeping for more than 4 hours at a time. On the rare occasion that I fall asleep at a normal 10:30ish time I wake up at 3:00A. My problem is that I feel fine after 4 hours of sleep! I am fully functional, never feel drowsy during the day, and am quite pleased with the entire arrangement. I occasionally force myself to get 8 hours but THEN I feel like crap. My problem is that the rest of the world is convinced that my situation is unhealthy.
- I don't snore. My teeth are properly aligned and I don't have sleep apnia. I am a few pounds over my target weight - 5'8" 160lb, my blood pressure is fine, and at my most recent doctor's visit I got to hear "you are one of the healthiest 31 year olds I have ever seen". My current career is challenging but engaging and I absolutely love it. Work for me isn't work, it's play that I get paid for. I'm financially secure, I have a great relationship with my wife and am an expecting father. i have a number of relaxing hobbies and in short, I couldn't imagine a better, more stress-free life. I'm a light smoker and I'm tired of everything being blamed on smoking. Half a pack of .1mg nic cigarettes isn't making me sleep 4 hours a night. I'm also on Chantix and I'm quitting anyway - chantix has turned my 4 hours of sleep a night into movie time :-) I might drink 3 pints of beer a month; alcohol's not it either. One of my favorite hobbies is cooking and I have an extremely healthy diet. I drink 2 cups of coffee and a coke a day and probably don't exercise as much as I should but really...
In summary, I'd like to discuss these details with an expert but can't find one. I refuse to be medicated for my sleeping schedule and I'm pretty much resigned to go with the flow and be happy with the extra 17% of living I get to do. However, it's been this way for 10 years now and I'm concerned about consequences. A million thanks in advance for any feedback!
