What Should I Do?!Im 18 years old from New Zealand and over the past few months I've been having trouble getting to sleep at night. I'll eventually fall asleep around 6 or 7am then sleep all day until about 3 in the afternoon. For example: right now its 3.40am and I finished work at 9pm and have been up since. I start work again at 9.30am but I've given up on any sleep because i know it won't happen! I know its bad but I'd rather a full 8 hours.
I really need to get this problem sorted because I start university next year and cant be sleeping all day! I've got low B12 levels and was wondering if there could be any connection and have also had mild depression a few years ago. Any tips or comments are welcome!
Re: What Should I Do?!If this is an ongoing issue I would suggest you make an appointment at a sleep clinic as a correct diagnosis is necessary before any advise can be given. If it's simply insomnia that would require something completely different than if it was DSS or DSPS or SAD.
Here is a quick litmus test, stay up all night on purpose (i.e. dont even try to sleep) and then stay up all day the next day and do not goto sleep until a normal bedtime say 10pm or 11pm and then force yourself up at 8am the next morning (have a friend call you or come over or set 3 alarms to all blare in your head at once and force yourself out of bed) you'll be tired all day but should be able to go to bed at 10pm or 11pm the next night and if you can then your looking at insomnia if not then you may have something more serious. question: Are you unable to sleep because your brain wont stop working? This is the case for me no matter how long I stay up and how tired my 'body' is my mind keeps working at 100mph and it is because of this that I can never manage to sleep. Just curious as I have DSPS and this seems to be a symptom.
