2 am Alarm

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Feb 28, 2002 11:16 pm

I am a 47 year-old male. I go to sleep without any problems at 10:30 every night. I started waking up at 2 am every morning to go to the bathroom about 3 weeks ago. I wake up very sleepy and stagger to the bathroom. Two minutes later, I'm wide awake. I stay awake for the rest of the night. I struggle through work, but when I get home I can't take a nap.
I've tried tranxene and Sonata, but neither changed my sleep pattern. I also tried cutting back on liquids at night. I don't drink caffeine after noon and I've stopped drinking alcohol. I've had to work longer hours lately so I'm not getting much exercise. I can't do much about that for a few more weeks. I spend most of my work day at a computer screen. Any suggestions?

You could likely benefit from someone evaluating all your sleep habits and risk factors for other causes of insomnia. Good sleep habits are essential and exercise is part of that. Medications are ok for a brief period of time but need to be used carefully. eliminating all caffeine is a good first step and talking to your doctor about this is also important
