Doctors not taking this seriously - nothing worksHi there
I'm new to forums, so sorry if I'm doing something wrong. My story....I gave birth to my son 7.5 months ago. Nearly 2 months ago, I started with some pretty bad insomnia, and eventually my mental health began to suffer. I've spoken to 4 doctors and 2 nurses. I've gone for blood work, which came back fine. I've tried over the counter sleep aids, and 3 different types of prescription pills.....they don't work in the least. I was pumping during this time, as I normally breast feed. Yes, I'm doing everything right in terms of "sleep hygene". The room is dark and coold, I cut out caffine, exercise more, tried soothing music, etc, etc, etc. I should mention that my son sleeps through the night, so he's not to blame. I've seen a psychiatrist who did conclude that this is NOT post pardum. However, I think it's a shift in hormones, as this started about the time I began getting my period again. My family doctor said that she would refer me to the BC Womens Hospital (I live in Vancouver, BC), and that she'd call me the nex day. TWO WEEKS later, I get a call to say they just faxed it in and are waiting for a reply. I am physically and mentally exhausted, as I'm sure you can all relate. I'm also tired of getting a pat on the back at each doctor appointment, and being told to drink warm milk and take a hot shower, etc. I do not believe any of the doctors I've spoken to take this seriously. They all think I must be stressed or something having a new baby.....he's the easiest baby on the planet, and he doesn't cause me any stress. I think the fact that the sleeping pills don't work goes to show there's something a bit deeper. Sorry this is so long. I'm just very frustrated and there's nobody to talk to at 2:45am. And I just need to talk to somebody who is going through the same thing. (side note: a good night sleep, rare at best, is about a total of 2 hour of broken sleep. Average sleep is 1.5 -2 hours per 48 hour period). Suggestions?
