DSPS

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Mar 18, 2002 3:06 am

For as long as I can remember I have had to force myself to go to sleep before 4am every morning, but never can. It is usually around 4am or a little after before I even get tired. Of course, then I never feel rested when I awake, even if I sleep for 10 hours, which i do on the norm. Now, My older sister and Mother have the same problem. Is this hereditary and if so, will I ever be able to change this sleep pattern? I have tried to force myself to sleep, but this never works.

it could be delayed sleep phase syndrome or poor sleep habits as well. Making sure you don't drink any caffeine, alcohol or smoke cigarrettes is important. You should also have regular sleep and wake times 7 days a week without any naps. Bright light exposure in the morning can help you feel sleepy at night time. If this doesn't work an evaluation by a sleep physician is appropriate.
