early wake

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Jun 03, 2001 12:12 pm

In addition to not falling asleep too easily at night, I have an even more troubling problem of waking up by 6:00am regardless when I actually go to sleep night bee. is fine on nights I can get to bed by 10 or 11, on nights I can't until 12 or 1, only sleeping until 6 is clearly not engough me to function properly throughout day. I don't drink liquids late at night, use ear plugs to block out morning noises, have tried various herbal supplements melatonin, nothing seems to work. Is re anything I can do to increase my morning sleep on nights I can not get to bed early??? Thanks! Stacy.

Early morning awakenings at 6 a.m might be due to the fact that you have a very strong circadian rhythm. One alway worries about depression with early morning awakenings as well, usually they are earlier than 6 a.m. in my experience but should always be considered. I would recommend you look at the insomnia section and sleep hygiene sections of the condition sections for some clues on how to get to sleep earlier in the night.
