Insomnia - BabyI have a couple of questions doctor regarding insomnia. I'm 33 never been best sleeper. I've had bad sleep hygiene slept bad some nights able to make up it here re.
However, after I had a baby 2 1/2 years ago it went downhill. I told to sleep when baby slept, go to bed early, etc. When baby started sleeping through night, I still had insomnia. It got so bad by time he 1, I getting about 2 hs a night. I went on Atavan, helped still groggy. I went to a sleep doctor he put me on Klonopin. about a year I started cutting back my dosage until none. My best insomnia find a book about sleep maintenance "Desperately Seeking Snoozin'". It said to reduce time in bed. Stay up as late as I could set alarm to wake up early (same time). It really seems to work!!!!
I've been fine now 6 months want anor baby. I'm afraid of same spiral happening. do suggest? Keep sleep maintenance?
Also, I love to travel overseas get really really bad jet lag insomnia a week ( whole trip). I've never been able to sleep on plane. Would suggest taking Klonopin 1-2 nights when I get re when I get home?
Thanks help.
Re: Insomnia - BabySorry for the long delay in the response. A very good treatment for long term insomnia is just what you described, sleep restriction, stimulus control( that is going to bed only when tired and getting up when not sleeping) and relaxation therapy. For short term insomnia ambien or sonota have distinct advantages over klonopin. Klonopin has carry over to the next day that the others don't have to a significant degree. I would recommend considering trying those instead on a plane trip. If it is a night flight taking one on the plane and getting sleep on the plane might be of benefit. As far as the baby goes, that will disrupt the sleep of the best sleeper and I am afraid I dont' have a good answer other than I would try to keep on your regular schedule.
