insomnia and anxietyIam a 35 yr old woman with no unusually high stress in my life and I do not feel that I suffer from depression (nor does my physician). I always felt tired during the day so I went to my doctor for help. He felt I wasn't getting restorative sleep (I told him I noticed I was restless in my sleep). He had me try Ambien 10mg. It worked for 1 week and then no longer worked for me...WHY?? Then, I began to become anxious about getting to sleep. Within 2 weeks, complete insomnia set in--I couldn't fall asleep at all without incredible rushes of adrenaline. I became incapacitated with anxiety and sleep deprivation. My doctor started me on buspirone for anxiety and 10mg of diazapam at bedtime. This has all happened within the last 6 weeks.
Re: insomnia and anxietySorry for the late response. When you were tired initially were you waking up at night or were you sleeping o.k. but just tired? If you were tired without having problems going or staying a sleep I would consider a sleep disorder such as obstructive sleep apnea or periodic limb movements causing your tiredeness. It is not uncommon for a person with insomnia to get stressed when going to bed and mild hypnotics such as ambien can be helpful. Anxiety or depression is a common cause of insomnia as well. You may want to consider seeing a sleep specialist since this is becoming a significant problem in your life.
