Long Term InsomniaI am a 29 year old female, who has had sleeping problems all my life. I have no problems once Im asleep, but I can't fall asleep. If I am woken even if I have only slept half an hour, I can't get back to sleep. I have been on chloral hydrate syrup for over a year, and it has lost its affectiveness. What other drug will help me with falling asleep fast. I have litterally gone days with out sleep, all because I just can't fall asleep. What should I do next?
Re: Long Term Insomniasleeping medications are not the answer for chronic insomnia. A great deal of work goes into an evaluation of problems such as this to look for any cause and help treat that. You should discuss this with your doctor and consider an evaluation by a sleep physician. Sleeping pill should only be needed for a few weeks. After that, other types of therapy need to be started.
