sleep disorders

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun May 12, 2002 5:21 pm

On the night of March 25, 2002 I awoke at about 3am with a brief muscle spasm that seemed to be in my torso. I have researched this a little and think fasciculation seems to fit the symptom. I awoke the following night, then sporadically after that. However, the past month these have been happening at least 2 to 3 times a night, constantly awakening me. My doctor prescribed Zoloft 25mg every night and I have been taking it for a week with no relief. I seem fine when I am awake, if not a little sleepy, but now I even get them when I try and nap.

I am not sure what this is, it could be periodic limb movements or nocturnal myoclonus or something else entirely. An evaluation by a sleep specialist or neurologist may be helpful. Generally if it is periodic limb movements then medications such as zoloft aren't the best therapy and some can make it worse.
