trouble staying asleepFor the past 15 years my sleep patterns have be bad. I would say I get 8 hours of sleep on one day about once or twice a year. I usually go to bed around 10pm and then wake up at around 2pm and every hour after that. I can tell when I roll over cough or do anything else. I get very tired from all of this but have never found out a way to solve it. If I drink I fall asleep for about 4 hours but then wake up and sweat all night and can not go back to sleep. I use no illegal drugs now but did a long time ago. I wonder if that has something to do with it. I sure would like to average around 6 hours of straight sleep a night.
Re: trouble staying asleepThe average person needs about 8 hours a night but you seem to be getting much more. The first thing to do is discuss this with your physician. There are many reasons for excessive sleepiness such as you describe and each needs to be evaluated. Important steps you can take would be to improve your sleep habits by avoiding caffeine, alcohol and tobacco, go to bed and wake up the same time each day, exercise in the afternoon. These help get you started toward good sleep but seeing your doctor to look for other medical causes is very important. If your doctor doesn't know what else to do, you can ask to see a sleep specialist.

Re: Re: trouble staying asleepI do not get excessive sleep. I only get 8 hours of sleep about once or twice a year. I usually get around 4 hours of sleep. I lift weights at least 3 times a week. I don't drink coffee, tea or much soda. I don't smoke. I work days as a salaried person so I go to be and am up at about the same time every day. I eat a balanced diet and like all kinds of foods. Nothing works.

Re: Re: Re: trouble staying asleepI am sorry there must have been a mistake on your first post. It said you go to bed at 10 pm and wake at 2 pm. In any event, a full evaluation from your doctor or a sleep specialist is the best approach as many factors can be contributing to your current symptoms.
