Narcolepsy Causes

Narcolepsy is a syndrome of unknown cause; therefore, it is helpful to look at related problems. Narcoleptic dysfunction may be associated with genetic links, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep disorder, and blood pressure issues.

Although poorly defined, there is some hereditary component to the occurrence of narcolepsy. People with narcolepsy have a slightly increased incidence of it in the family. In fact, narcolepsy fits the paradigm established by most sleep di...Read the full article

I tend to agree with the body of this and the interesting heredity based bloodfactor.
The diagnosis I recieved was Mid-life 40s when this became more present and a hazard to daytime driving and wakefulness. My father was dispositioned same and in ten minutes of turning on the evening news he was usualy in sleep leaning toward the TV, he also had sleep apnias and gasping.
These I do not have but the rapid onset to REM was my doctors diagnosis. I also have some very minor pre-sleep RLS. My sister was diagnoses near same age without a clue that father and myself were and I was being treated. My sister is resitant to being treated as a ritalin trial made her uncomfortable. She limits her long driving and only during days. For many years I would stop at every rest stop and walk and get a drink and drive again, this reset the clock as I think the serotonin from movements or activity that requires threads of cognivity than repetition or holding the wheel keeps the the trigger level above state. I can perform active work for extended times, but once at rest or seated the body is trigered to OFF. A walk can restore !
Stress, poor sleep habits, fatigue all play against. Interesting is that cronic late day fatigue and neck pain went away with a simple addrall RX..and an unknown corelation that I want someone to discuss.
