Narcolepsy is technically defined by excessive daytime sleepiness and sleep attacks, in conjunction with one or more auxiliary symptoms, which can include cataplexy, hallucination, and sleep paralysis. The entire tetrad of symptoms, as it is often called, occurs only in about 10 percent of cases.
