Could I have Narcolepsy?

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jan 12, 2006 6:28 pm

I have spent the last few years of my life sleeping. I'm severely tired alot!I do work, and it really bothers me when I'm sooo sleepy , sometimes I wonder how I'm going to make it through the day. I have three children and I really feel guilty sometimes because I sleep so much that it takes time from family. Over the past few months I have been taking a prescription diet pill..(adipex) I have felt much better...I have actually made it through the day not even thinking of sleep! I had put on a few extra pounds... I've lost them, "but" now I'm back to the sleepiness! I have also had panic attacks...that started in 02.I am still on paxil for them. My Doctor just put me on 25 mg of Ritilan to see if that will help me...

Yes it sounds like you have Narcolepsy, you may want to see a Neurologist that specialize in sleep disorders. I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy when I was 15, and now I'm 40 and I take Ritalin 2x's a day. There are other medications also so please try it so you'll have more time with your children. You are so right about Adipex, that's what made me realize I could have a normal life when trying to diet at 23 and being prescribed adipex. Adipex keeps you awake and give you energy. Most of the medications keep you woke but the energy part is still a struggle. Hopefully one day Adipex will be a consideration for Narcolepsy patients. Please mention the help it gave you to your doctor and maybe it will be available for us. Good luck
