trying to wake up....

Post a new topicby hoolie on Sat Sep 27, 2008 9:30 pm

my son has trouble waking up. He has always been a very deep sleeper but now as an adult it is causing interferrance with work. Not daily but often, he does not hear an alarm or numerous different alarms. He has no hearing problems. He is VERY healthy, works out at gym, runs, athletic, healthy eater.... He has had blood work done and seen doctor with no answers. He is very responsible and mature so oversleeping for work becomes a problem. I do understand some others on this forum that say someone wakes them up.....he no longer lives at home so its difficult for momma to go wake him up. We really want to know the reason for all this. Most people pass it off as being irresponsible. That is NOT the case here. As a child, he took adderal for A.D.D. and staying awake during the day is not a problem. It is just the initial waking up. I have woken him up before and he sits up, talks to me with open eyes...and never remembers it.(still asleep). He even sleep walks some. HELP

Hi there!

Well, if you ever come back here again maybe you will see my response. You said your son took Adderral when he was a child for ADD. From my understanding ADD does not go away when you become an adult it just manifests itself into different symptoms. For me I fall asleep all the time, but do no have a hard time waking up in the Am. However, my doctors say I have adult ADD. Sleep and patterns of sleep have a lot to do with it. If I were you I would talk with my son about practicing good sleep hygiene. He needs to try to go to bed at the same time each night and wake up at the same time each morning. They also say one should not drink alcohol anymore either. That may be a problem for him if he is young and likes to go out a lot. Good luck to you! irishbookfairy

thanks for your opinion. yes he goes to bed on reg. schedule...no he is thru with the party life...praise GOD!!! He gets up and runs several miles a day and works out at gym daily. He is a health fanatic. It is just random when he sleeps so hard. No consistancy in any of this.... now he lives at home again so maybe his new alarm clock I ordered him that will wake the dead....
