rbd disorder

I’m a 56 year old male experiencing this rem/rbd sleep disorder. I have dreams that I’m fighting and I have hit my wife on more than one occasion. The irony is I am not in the the least a violent person. I dont really know what to do to check this potentially dangerous activity, I certainly dont want to hurt my wife or myself. Any suggestions?

It does not matter that you are during waking hours a non violent person. During sleep your brain replays all that you have seen during your past. Movies, news, past experiences. If you dream any of these situations which include "acting out" you will act out. At your age you can assume that you have classic RBD caused by a break down in the brain stem cell. There is no cure but there are meds. 1st step: go see your family doc 2.) next step- go to a neurologist 3.) third step - try the meds. Good luck. I wish you well. If the acting out at night gets that bad you will need to sleep by yourself in a separate room without a window or mirrored doors and possibly restrain yourself so you do not hurt yourself. I restrain both of my legs nitely and still manage to rip my knees apart....
