've had a weird sleep issue that has gone on for years. I'm female, 49 years old, an ardent runner, healthy & fit(except for this!). For years, I have awakened during a vivid dream which always has one of two themes...(1) that I have forgotten to take a lifesaving medicine for a week (or I've been poisoned and need the antidote) and am about to die or (2) a bomb is about to go off. If (1) occurs, I leap out of bed and frantically search my entire bedroom for this nonexistent medication. This can go on for quite awhile. A few times, I've left my bedroom in the middle of the night, come down to my kitchen and attempted to take my thyroid medication (my husband, who is quite aware of this problem, caught me). I've awakened my poor son to solicit his help and/or called my husband on the phone if he is working late. If (2) happens, I leap out of bed and frantically run around unplugging all the electrical equipment in the bedroom, particularly my clock, which I've thrown across the room to "defuse" it (I'm on my second clock in a year...the first one is a pathetic heap now). I've thought the "bomb" was in my digital thermostat and have spent a long time flapping about trying to "defuse" it...again, perhaps waking up my long-suffering son in the process to "help" me.

These incidents always occur during a vivid dream and happen every single night like clockwork at least once and sometimes multiple times per night. I usually remember a portion of the episode and I can speak as well as perform complex functions during. There is no delay between the dream and my leaping up...it happens instantaneously and I literally feel physically as though I'm about to die. I'm concerned that one day, I'll leave the house or do something terrible. Does this sound like RBD?
