sleep fighting/jumping/kicking etc

Post a new topicby roybarlo on Fri May 30, 2008 1:22 pm

For the past few years I have experienced unbelievable sleep disorder's I have had many different types of dreams some where I have had to jump out of the way of something ,causing me to throw myself out of the bed with real force.Other times I have been defending my self in a dream and woken up either punching my wife or kicking out with more force than I could if I was awake.
Is there a cure for this and could this set off Atrial Fibrillation which I have had three times.
Any one with same type of conditions ??? Or am I alone ??

NO- YOU ARE NOT ALONE. I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED BY MY LOCAL SLEEP WAKE CENTER AS HAVING REM DISORDER. I AM 31 AND HAVE HAD THIS MY ENTIRE LIFE. I AM ALWAYS TIRED DURING THE DAY AND I HAVE ALSO KICKED MY PARTNER OUT OF BED WITH HUGE FORCE. I HAVE DONE CRAZY THINGS LIKE DREAM I WAS GETTING PUT INTO THE BACK OF A DUMP TRUCK AND CRUSHED. I WOKE UP IN THE CLOSET AND TOTAL REMBER WHY I WAS IN THERE. IT IS STRANGE AND MOST PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN DREAM AND IT BE SO REAL. I HAVE SAD DREAMS AND WAKE MYSELF UP CRYING, SO I TOTALLY CAN UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS ISSUE UNDER CONTROL FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS SINCES I WAS OFFICALLY DIAGNOSED BUT IT IS REALLY HARD. I HAVE HAD 2 SLEEP WAKE STUDIES AND BASICALLY TOLD I AM A TUFF CASE BECAUSE I AM A YOUNG FEMALE. I HAVE TAKEN ALL SORTS OF MEDS TO HELP BUT REALLY NOTHING HAS REALLY FIXED THE ISSUE. I HAVE DONE ALLOT OF RESEARCH ON MY OWN BECAUSE I HAVE NOT GOTTEN MUCH RESLULTS FROM THE MEDS, MOST OF THEM MAKE ME EVEN MORE TIRED DURING THE DAY. THE ISSUE APPEARS TO BE THAT THE DR'S CAN DIAGNOSES YOU BUT DONT REALLY HAVE ANY CLEAR TREATMENT. I SEEM TO THINK CLOZAPAM AT NIGHT HELPS, BUT DOES NOT COMPLETLY CURE THE DREAMS. I TAKE PROVIGAL DURING THE DAY TO KEEP ME AWAKE SO I CAN WORK. THAT DRUG IS GREAT BUT YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL TAKING IT AS IT CAN MAKE YOU A BITE JUMPY AND IF TAKEN TOO LATE MAKES IT HARD TO SETTLE DOWN FOR BED. SO BASICALLY THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU ARE NOT ALONE, THE BAD NEWS IS EVEN IF DIAGNOSED THERE IS NOT EXACT TREATMENT AS THIS CONDITION IS BASICALLY A CHEMICAL IMBALANCE AND EACH PERSONS BRAIN CHEMESTRY IS DIFFERENT. WHAT WORKS FOR ONE PERSON MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU. THE HEALTH PROBLEMS I HAVE THAT I THINK STEM FROM LACK OF SLEEP. DEPRESSION AND JUST BEING SO TIRED I CANT FUNCTION LIKE A NORMAL 31 YEAR OLD FEMALE. I WILL SUGGEST THAT YOU GO TO A SLEEP WAKE CENTER AND HAVE A SLEEP WAKE STUDY. IT IS WEIRD BUT IT IS WORTH IT. THEY CAN MAYBE FIND A MEDICINE THAT CAN HELP YOU. GOOD LUCK

I live in New York and only wish I could help get more information out regarding sleep disorders. I have stuggled with this disorder for 32 years and have just finally found a medicine that would help me. I have been thru hell trying to deal with this disorder. Dr's telling me I suffer from depression and giving me all types of harmful medications that eventually lead to worse conditions. Wouldnt you be moody if you havent slept correctly in 32 years. If i sleep 8 hrs it is like you getting 4. There are not enough people who have this condition or who have been properly diagnosed with this conditon for any real treatment to be put out there. Basically they have studied it for years and may be able to diagnose it but cant really treat it. It ruins people's life. You hardly live life at all. I feel like a whole new person now that I can sleep with out dreaming. The first time I slept a night with out dreaming it was the amazing I finally knew what it was like to be like other people. When you have this condition you dont know anything else. You just think most other people must dream like you too. You are always too tired to do anything after work. Everthing is a struggle and people just dont understand why you are tired all the time. I am 32 and even in my 20's I could not do all the things I wanted to do. I Know know it is the reason I did not do well in school. I mean I could sit here for hours telling you how this condition ruined my quility of life. The true fact is this conditon is not a money maker for the drug companys because there are not enough people with this conditions so it is not worth their time or effort. I just wanted to wish you luck with your article because I know there are other people just like me who if they can get more information could really change their lives. If I can offer any information or help. Please let me know. Good Luck :o)
