rls and peripheral neuropathyMy doctor has recently suggested that I may suffer from neuropathy rather than, or in addition to RLS. He started me on Neurontin. I already take ReQuip and struggle significantly with the side effects of it. My doctor would like to try gradually increasing the Neurontin and decreasing the ReQuip. I feel very frustrated that this whole situation has consumed my life over the past 6 months, either with the lack of sleep or the side effects of the drugs. I also have the symptoms in the daytime if I try to read, rest or travel in the car. I would catorgorize my symptoms as extremely severe every day. With the outlook of the syndrome increasing with age I feel very concerned about the quality of life in the future especially considering I am only 47.
Re: rls and peripheral neuropathyI too have RLS and peripheral neuropathy. My doc presently has me on 1 mg nightly of Klonipen along with an OTC benedryl. This really takes care of the RLS and lets me sleep well. I have been on this dose since 2000, after having begged my doc to amputate my legs. I was offered Requip recently to try, but I figure, if it aint broke, dont fix it. I have had no ill effects from the Klonipen (spelling??) and am doing fine on it. as far as the neuropathy goes...i just live with it. no biggie to me.
Oh, I just turned 49, and have had RLS symptoms since I was 15, except it wasnt identified as RLS back then. Anyway, try Klonipen 1 mg with a Benedryl capsul...it couldnt hurt and it might solve your problem like it did mine. RLSgurl
