Make the switch

I have worked as an RN for the past 4 years…on night shift. 7p.m.- 7 a.m. But the twelve hour shift always turned out to be 14 hours. Three weeks ago I switched to day shift, and I already feel like a new person. I feel like I’ve been in a fog for the past 4 years. It’s like post traumatic stress syndrome! How did I do that for 4 years? I highly encourage anyone that is working nights to make a change. I promise, it’s worth it!! You’ll love your life!

I too am a nurse and recently started a new job where I work nights. When I was hired, I told my boss that I was willing to start off doing nights but that eventually I would want to work days. I am now seriously reconsidering my thoughts on that because honestly, aside from the sleep thing (I know what you mean about living in a fog) the work is so much easier! Did you find this to be the case when you worked nights? If so, was the sleep thing bad enought to outweigh the easier-job thing?
Just curious.
