Re: Sleep Apnea & Atrial FibrillationWell, almost the same story. I´m 46 I was feeling "bad" for 18 months, specially palpitations, arritmia and tachicardia, some depresion, high blood pressure, etc. consulted 3 cardiologist during that time and they did little help. 45 days ago I had my AF, it was horrible, I was dying....
The cardiologists told me that I had something bad with my conduction wires in my heart and they will have to perform an ablation with radiofrecuency.... well I consulted in the Arritmia and Syncope Dept in Mercy Hospital in Miami and there an ANGEL (Dr. Interian) started to ask if I snore... if I´m sleepy... if I have a 18 neck or more.... If my overweight......etc,etc. Then looking to all of the studies told me I have OSA and nothing is wrong with my heart. Went to a sleep study and guess what.... yes.. OSA. started my CPAP 23 days ago and a lot of improvement, still a little sleepy and blured but I think I´m 80% better, my heart is OK, still taking some antiarritmics and maybe I´ll stop them in 6 months. OSA can kill you. According to a recent study AF is present in around 50% of OSA patients. So... please to cardiologysts please start reading about OSA to help more people.
