Can GERD cause snoring and sleep apnea??

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Mar 26, 2002 12:57 pm

My fiancee suffers from extreme GERD symptoms, and just starting taking Protonix 40 mg

He snores very loudly and occasionally holds his breath when he sleeps.

The pulmonologist has suggested a sleep study, but I was wondering it the GERD could cause his snoring/apnea...

what about a chronic cough?? Can GERD cause that too??

GERD is a common symptom of sleep apnea and generally is not a cause. It can be a cause of chronic cough. A sleep study in a patient with GERD who snores loudly seems appropriate.
