Having all kinds of trouble, please help!Hello,
I believe...or hope...that I have sleep apnea. My journey started about two years ago when I changed jobs--something that I handled very well in the past. MAJOR depression. I got used to the job and the depression went away but the memory problems, ability to concentrate and/or learn did not. I then had a recurrence of the depression in July of last year due to stress and had to begin an anti-depressant. Again the depression went away but the memory and ability to concentrate did not--in fact it is getting worse. My other symptoms include: -Weight gain, despite dieting. -Depression (never had it before) -irritablity -High blood pressure -sometimes sweat at night -sometimes wake up taking a deep breath (like when swimming & coming up for air) -Snoring heavy--in all positions in bed. -Occassional leg cramps at night. -Terrible memory/concentration/learning ability. -able to sleep for hours without feeling rested (NAPPED for 3 hours yesterday and felt like I could sleep 3 more when my wife WOKE me up to eat). -My wife remembers me snorting awake a while back. -My wife says my breathing appears really labored (i.e. chest really working to get a breath and my neck--in between my collar bones--really sucking in when inhailing. -General lack of any drive--sex or work. I have a sleep study scheduled for 2/28 if my insurance will approve it. If this is not sleep apnea and caused by depression shouldn't the memory problems and the concentration have improved as the depression got better? If I don't have sleep apnea the I don't know what all of this is! Thanks, Dreamy
Re: Having all kinds of trouble, please help! The symptoms you describe are definately all symptoms of sleep apnea. It may well be that is what is causing you this much trouble. Usually antidepressant medication should make the symptoms of depression better after a period of time. I am glad you are getting a sleep study. Please let me know how it goes.
