Misdiagnosed? My husband just had a sleep study done. He was very nervous about it and stayed on his back all night which is very unusual for him. The results were negative for sleep apnea, yet he still has EDS, falls asleep in minutes, has morning headaches and generally feels awful. Could he have been misdiagnosed?? I'm not quite sure what to do from here. I know there must be some kind of problem because no matter how much he sleeps, he's exhausted all the time. Please help!
Re: Misdiagnosed?I cannot say if he was misdiagnosed as I did not see his sleep study personally. Important things to know about this are that every sleep laboratory has different equiptment and expertise. A sleep center with a sleep specialist board certified by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine or a sleep center accredited by the same organization should be following national standards and therefore unlikely to miss a diagnosis of sleep apnea if present.
There are other causes of excessive daytime sleepiness such as narcolepsy, insufficient sleep syndrome, depression, etc. A board certified sleep specialist should be able to help determine the cause. you can search for a sleep doctor near you on our website [quote] My husband just had a sleep study done.
