Short Term Memory Loss

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jan 21, 2002 9:46 pm

Hi, I've been diagnosed as having OSA and have been receiving treatment in the form of CPAP for nearly two years. I'm 36, Male weigh approx. 16 Stone and I'm 5ft 9inches tall. I'm in otherwise good health and can count on one hand how many times I've seen my G.P. in the last ten years. My Short Term Memory is getting slowly worse, apart from the usual miss-placement of items, I'm forgetting conversations that I've had only an hour or so before. Not only do I forget the content of the conversation, but I also have no recollection of having the conversation in the first place! I've had both an MRI and an EEG but with no problems being found. I'm hoping that you may be able to offer some suggestions....

short term memory loss can be due to improperly treated OSA. Did you have a separate sleep study with cpap only and did you sleep well with it? Did the cpap make any of your symptoms improve?

Thanks for your input, sorry for the delay in getting back to you..

In answer to your Question, yes I have had a sleep study done with CPAP only. Whilst the symtoms of OSA have dramatically improved, my Memory Loss seems to be as bad as ever, if not worse. (I'm more aware of it now)

I'm hoping that there is a possible explanation....

Any advice greatfully received!

it certainly can take longer for memory to improve with cpap but it shouldn't get worse. Your doctor should be made aware of this and evaluate it.
