sleep apnea

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jan 07, 2002 1:50 pm

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea several years ago. I have had little
success with the CPAP machine and am
going to try an oral appliance and have
lost weight. Lately for the first time
I have suffered bouts of impotence and
sexual disinterest. Are there any
current treatments for this symptom ??
I am a 47 year old, divorced man who
recently moved back with my children since my ex-wife passed away. Could the
bouts of impotence be stress related
or from the sleep apnea. Any advices
would be appreciated. I have scheduled
a full checkup with my doctor. Thank you.

Untreated obstructive sleep apnea can lead to impotence and lack of libido. Stress also can be contributing to this. If the oral appliance does not work there newer cpap machines with heated humidity and different features to consider. Also if you have lost weight the cpap level may be incorrect for you. In any event, anyone should be able to get effective therapy for sleep apnea. If a regular doctor cannot help, perhaps a sleep specialist can.
