symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Feb 05, 2002 3:27 pm

I have recently been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea. I am awaiting my next sleep test to be fitted fora CPAP device. My question relates to my symptoms that I can associate with the sleep apnea: I understand that frequent urination at night, menstrual irregularities and weight gain can be brought on by sleep apnea. Can you explain how your body reacts to the sleep apnea in order to cause the above symptoms?

I can't explain it in detail here because it would take too much space. Simply put though, the obstructive apneas change the flow of blood to your heart and that signals a hormone that can make you need to urinate. Other hormones are affected by the obstructive apneas or the disrupted sleep and lead to the weight gain and changes in the menstrual cycles.
