upper airway resistance syndrome in children

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Aug 09, 2001 3:19 pm

This is my 1st visit to this site.

Have a question re: UARS in my 5 yr old son. Had sleep study done which showed many hourly arousals associated with
respiratory efforts. No apnea though.

ENT recommends removing tonsils and
adenoids in hopes of freeing up his
airway in an effort for him to have
unfragmented sleep. (and hopefully,
less daytime fatigue and crabbiness!)

Have read much info on the internet that seems to state that removal of the tonsils/adenoids may not be the
cure all for UARS. My son also has
allergies and is on Zyrtec for that.

Any suggestions? Oh, how many
arousals per hour are normal for a 5 yr
old child? Does the arousal index matter more than daytime symptoms? Just a little confused here...

Thanks!
