Waking up--scary feeling

Post a new topicby TammiP on Thu Mar 26, 2009 12:58 am

I am reading up on sleep apnea, and it seems most people don't even know they are experiencing it. I actually wake up with what seems like my diaphragm "kick-starting"...I actually feel a pull inward, like a silent hiccup...and I can tell that I've stopped breathing. SCARY!!! I've had this on rare occasion, but now that I have a bad cold, it happens many many times during my sleep these past 2 days...I am up now only because I am afraid to go to sleep...going to the doctor tomorrow. I am wondering if cough suppressent/decongestant make matters worse.

Out of curiosity how did you go with your doctor.
I've had the same sort of feelings, that's why I ended up actually going for my first sleep study.
Now I'm on CPAP Most nights and that seems to have made things better.

What was the response of the cough medicine?
