What does it mean if I get no stage 3 or 4 sleep?

Post a new topicby Guest on Sat Jan 19, 2002 2:20 am

Sleep studies, done with and without a CPAP, show I get zero stage 3 or 4 sleep. With the CPAP I get almost twice the REM sleep, but no improvement in getting to the 3rd or 4th stage.
How important is the 3rd and 4th stage of sleep? Is there any way to improve this situation?

It really depends on the situation. Stage 3 and 4 sleep really helps make sleep refreshing and is important. It may be that you will get yours back after a period of time on cpap. Other than good sleep habits and treating and underlying disease, there is not much anyone can do to improve the amount of stage 3 and 4 sleep.
