HI LivingWith -
I just found out I have been abusing my husband in my sleep for years too! I am devastated!
I used to just sleep-talk a lot, and sometimes the things I would say would hurt his feelings. But I guess the last five to ten years it became a scary night for him. I would hit, punch, slap or kick him about once a week. But I would say the MOST awful things four or five nights a week. I swear and say that I hate him, and now he reports that I said I wanted to kill him last night. It is just terrible! (That was me yelling from the living room, where I have been sleeping for the last two weeks.)

I am switching insurance, so I am waiting until Sept. 20 for my consultation, and I hope he hangs in there another few weeks so I can get my sleep study and some treatment!!

Anyway, what I *think* I have is called REM behavior disorder. It is the only thing that makes sense. Have you gotten a diagnosis yet? You're not alone. BTW, we have been married 23 years, and I am 44 years old. I have absolutely NO memories of any of the bizarre stories he has started to relate to me, Nor am I a violent person by day. (I don't drink, smoke, or take drugs.) I did work a third shift job for 3-1/2 years sometime in the time frame this started. And I worked a second shift job for a while after that. But I have been working days since then.

We have three kids, 13, 16 and 18, and none of the kids have heard any of my episodes.

I wish you the best, Living With. You are not alone. - Laura (Ohio)
