Boyfriend Twitches and Jerks While Asleep

Post a new topicby iheartpoetry37 on Tue Apr 07, 2009 1:42 am

Hi everyone! I will begin by telling you a little history about my boyfriend which might be helpful in getting some answers to his sleep disturbances. He was a methamphetmine drug user off and on for about 21 years. He is clean now and has been for 9 months now. He has gone through periods of sobriety off and on over the years, but the longest period of time lasted only 18 months.

When he begins to fall asleep, his whole body twitches. His upper body and lower extremities will twitch simultaneously. There are times when he jerks so violently, he is awakened and naturally I am too. The more violent jerking movements reminds me of when a person is awakened by a falling dream. He continues to twitch off and on throughout the night. I am unsure how many times this occurs as I do not stay awake to count the occurences; however, it happens frequently because it disrupts my sleep as well. I am concerned for him because he doesn't feel rested. Can someone please help! Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Hi

My bf used to have sudden jerking movements whilct falling to sleep aswell as when he was asleep, he doesnt seem to do it now not like he used to, we looked this up and we found something called RLS restfull leg syndrome, we also found REM rapid eye movement where they go straight into a dream like sleep. maybe you can look it up and try get him to see a doctor.
best of luck
