Central Sleep Apnea with NO KNOWN medical PROBLEMSOk, the history of my Sleeping beauty is long!! We came home from the hospital and every thing appeared to be normal!! With the exception of she spit up more milk than any child I have every seen!!! I am a intervention specialist and have worked with over 500 babies in my career and I have never seen one do what she did!! I was young and allowed 2 pediatricians to let me stop my questions and give antacids and ignore the problem!!! Then the sleep problem!! the child did not sleep through the night until she was a year old! If she actually has ever slept through the night! Now I know that she actually wakes up gasping for air several times during the night and goes back to sleep unless she really gets scared and then she stays up!!
Thought out PRE-K through 4th grade there were comments about Sleeping Beauty needing Ritalin for not paying attention!! But since sleeping Beauty's mom was a Psychologist and Sleeping Beauty did not meet the criteria for ADHD she was not placed on MEDs!!! Thankfully In 5th grade Sleeping Beauty's teacher reported her for staying up all night because she was sleeping in class!! first sign something was going wrong!! Mom researched and found that sleeping Beauty was not in fact staying up and the search for what the problem started!! She had her tonsils and adenoids removed in an attempt to clear up her airways during this time! In the meantime Sleeping Beauty developed Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome and had to be placed on hormones in order to have her body to develop normally. In 2006 Sleeping Beauty still is having problem and is unable to remain awake in the classroom and when going into her room after 5 seconds she is asleep!! Which has caused some serious doubts with her dad!! Who thought she was just not answering him when he called her!! Then she comes in from school with an appointment from the nurse practitioner for a sleep specialist!!! Dad and MOM are both thinking she is playing on the computer and cell phone and not real sure about the appointment in the beginning!! Then comes the results!! Central Sleep Apnea.... we were given pro vigil and sent for a MRI W/o Contrast- which showed no problems with her brain stem!! thank God!! In 2009, we get a second opinion because the pro vigil did not work and she was falling asleep in class worse than before!! She was more fatigue than ever before and stressed out! Her occurrences of central attacks had increased from 2 to 3 per hour to 8 to 9 per hour!! We had a a second round of MRIs w and W/o Contrast and were sent to cardiology for an electrocardiogram All test results were reported to be negative. With the exception that the neurologist answer was that he felt that her brain is misfiring which is causing the apnea! So We then went back for another sleep study that we tried out a bypass machine! They were not happy with the results. They said she fought the machine all night and the results of the test was not good. So now we are waiting until may to run the test again to see if there is a lower occurrence of Sleep apnea. Since it increased from 06 to 09 they are hoping that it will decrease on its own with no interference from the dr. So we sit in limbo!!! Is there anyone out there with a child that has been it this situation. All other Central patients that I have found have severe heart or neurological problems. She does not have either!! Both doctors involved in the case are completed puzzled and so is the family!!! ANSWERS Could some one please find the PRINCE!!!
