Falling asleepFor the last year I have been worried because at the initial stage of sleep, about the first 5 to 10 min where i begin to fall asleep i freak out. Re: Falling asleepMaybe you should read a little more about REM-associated muscle paralysis. I believe my sister as the same problem as you, she on the other hand is known to sleep with her eyes wide open so when she told me about the waking up and not being able to move I did a little research and it appears that sometimes or on some people the motion in the brain does not reactivate right away after being awake.
(( http://www.sleepdisorderchannel.com/stages/index.shtml )) Quote: ( Stage 5,REM) "It is generally thought that REM-associated muscle paralysis is meant to keep the body from acting out the dreams that occur during this intensely cerebral stage."
Re: Falling asleepHo yeah I almost forgot, I really don't think you can actually stay in that state of paralysis and I know its pretty scary from what I have herd, but I have not found any records of people staying in that state for an extended period. So next time it happens maybe try not to panic and think of something nice while slowly telling your self you want to wake up.. Maybe it would ease your transition anyways that's what I suggested to my sister.
Hope it helps! Good luck.
