HELP! I AM A SLOTH!

Post a new topicby Guest on Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:51 pm

well I dont have fur, but I'm tired almost *all* the time. Heres my background, I'm 21, male, non-smoker, normal weight, occasional drinker. I typically need 9.5 - 10 HOURS of sleep each night, or else I'm tired. I dont have insomnia problems AT ALL, I sleep like a rock the whole night. I've noticed I need to allow my body to wake up on its own, which seldom is less than 9 hours per night. If I set an alarm clock, I will literally be tired ALL DAY. I know this sounds like laziness, but I am so tired when my alarm goes off I simply cannot move further than reaching up and hitting snooze or shutting it off altogether. I just can't fight the tiredness, just like an addict can't fight the cravings. I've tried exercise a couple of times, but I've fallen back into the ways of the sloth, and the exercise didn't show any notable improvement. The other main factor is I have a very slow metabolism, where I have a very suppressed appetitie and it's nothing for me to skip a meal, so I was thinking maybe my body is tuned to get its energy from sleep instead of food. Is that possible ? Also, for a while I thought it was just because I was a teenager, but I'm 21 now, so I should be out of the adolescence phase by now right ? Please help with your suggestions, is there a medical term describing my symptoms, so that I may further research it online ? Thank you very much - Mike

I am the same way! Just this morning I turned off both of my alarms in my sleep. I only woke up because my friend called and asked why I wasn't at work. I've really become distressed over this past year. Every morning I'm constantly running late because I can never wake up on time. I've always been this way. When I was in high school my mom had to wake me up because I would sleep through the alarm. I don't know what to do. I set my alarm for about an hour before I need to wake up. I rarely even hear my alarm in the morning when it starts to go off. My problem is that I can't wake up on a schedule. It doesn't matter what time I have to be up but when I jsut can't seem to wake up on a schedule. I've tried EVERYTHING! Excercise, going to bed the same time every night, not getting too much or too little sleep, getting up the first time the alarm goes off (can't do it if I can't hear it!) And more than that I'm frustrated because no one thinks it's a REAL problem. They think I am lazy or I need to exercise more. I can't even find anything about my problem on sleep disorder websites! I have found a few people though. Let me know if you find anything out Mike. Or if you find anything that helps. Hopefully we can get help because it's really starting to take a toll on my life. Good luck.
