Emotional effects ofter waking up

Post a new topicby sleep2324 on Fri Oct 31, 2008 12:41 pm

I have a been a sleep walking since childhood. I'm now in my late 20's and during the past year my sleep walking has gotten out of control. That said - how do I deal with walking up & trying to explain why I'm in another room....or a conversation that I can't remember having with someone. I feel afraid, suicidal...crazy. I'm upset for days after...it's really ruining my life.

I konw what you mean. I have done some pretty strange things while asleep. Some of these things I remember but only in the context of my dream. Others, I have no recollection of at all. My husband said I had him chasing around the bedroom to kill a spider which I saw quite clearly but which didn't exist not too long ago (I am 36 and married for 14 years now). I don't remember that one. That said, I made sure early on that people I know are aware that I have a sleep disorder. My husband got first hand notice of it early on so ended up having to believe me. They know the sleep disorder symptoms and usually end up getting quite a kick out of it. (Thanks guys..) I have had conversations with people while asleep which I don't remember but if they talk with me about it later, I have to admit that I have no clue what they are talking about and can we talk about it again. We all end up treating it as quite a joke as it doesn't seem to be anything I can change. I don't know if that helps but..

Try to find the humor in it. Over the years I have heard a lot of stories about things I have done and I just laugh. I have done some pretty embarassing things including: wimpering during a storm, waking up my college roommate to go on an imaginary trip, pointing out imaginary monsters, showering, and my favorite, calling family/friends in the middle of the night and rambling. I just laugh (and often apologize) when people tell me about my antics.
