Going to the Bathroom while Sleepwalking

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Apr 23, 2004 10:45 am

Hi, I was wondering if someone had any suggestions or experienced something like this before. I find that if my boyfriend has had a lot to drink one night on the weekend, he will sleepwalk, not knowing what hes doing. It doesnt happen everytime he gets drunk (maybe 2-3 times per year this event happens) but he will get out of bed, walk to anywhere BUT the bathroom to go pee. He has gone in the laundry basket, and even the hotwater closet. Is this normal? When I tell him about it the next morning he has no idea that he did that. Im a light sleeper so when he wakes up in the middle of the night, I always look to see what hes doing. I have stopped him before, and directed him to the bathroom. Still, is there a way for this to be prevented? Anyone experience this?

I'm experiencing the same thing with my spouse! I was relating it to drinking alcohol too, but wasn't sure. It seems this only happens when he drinks alot. It drives me crazy because it does wake me up during the night, but in a way I'm glad because at least I can try to stop him from urinating in places other than the bathroom! I would like to know if there is anything we can do to avoid this during the night. It didn't used to happen very often, but he's been consistent these last 4 nights!

I tend to think in my situation it happens when he has had too much to drink. Though there have been times we have been out, had too much to drink and it doesnt happen. But I dont believe this has ever happened while he has had nothing in his system. Its frustrating because if we go out with people and stay in a hotel room I fear him sleepwalking with other people int he room. Have you ever had tha thappen? We are going away next month, and staying two nights in a hotel with two sisters of mine, and my brother. I know we will have drinks becuase we will be in Atlantic City, I would HATE To have this happen because he would be so embarassed. And I am afraid if I dont wake up to stop him, who knows where he would end up urinating. I thought about talking to my dr about it, and I want him to make an appt to see his dr to see if ther eis anything known about it or he has any suggestions. Have you tried talking to your spouses dr?
Anyone else out there that can help!!!

My husband does that. He went outside tonight and went to the bathroom on the side of our house. He started that after he had a stressful job and started to drink larger amounts of alcohol He's gone in many cupboards under our sinks, in plants around the house and once started to go in the refrigerator drawer...I redirected him on that one. I try to redirect him to the bathroom but he gets upset with me. I hate it! How do you deal with it? I got really mad the first time because it shocked me. Now I try not to but it's tough.

Has anyone that has a friend/spouse that "sleep pees" had a resolution? Found it interesting that most posts mention alcohol. My husband does drink beer almost every evening - wondering if anyone who has had experience with this issue noticed if alcohol was not consumed, the event stops? Hopeful - thanks any help.

I wish I had a solution as I also have just discovered I have this problem too. Until recently I used to live alone with my dog and it wouldn't happen often, but only occassionally after drinking and I used to think that my dog was getting old and developing a weak bladder.

Now I live with other people they have now told me that they have found me peeing in various parts of the house at night. I'm quite embaressed and not sure how to deal with it as it doesn't happen every time I drink and it doesn't have to be alot of drinks that I have.

I would also like some help with this as it seems that it is only something that has recently began to happen in the last year and is hard to explain to others that may find me as I am now 28.

Any help would be welcomed
