Husband is Sleep Drinking - HELP!Help! My husband has been drinking copious amounts of alcohol in his sleep!!! It goes like this... he says goodnight and goes to bed. Then, about a half hour to 45 minutes later he gets up and I catch him drinking beer, wine or liquor in his sleep! He talks jibberish, and also does other things, like cooking brownies (and leaving the oven on), going outside and leaving the front door open, smoking, and taking random pills from the medicine cabinet. I have tried changing the locations of household medications, even hiding the beer! But short of committing us both to permanent and complete sobriety, and eliminating all sharp objects from the home, I don't know what to do! He's not an alcoholic or a druggie... when he is awake anyways!
He has shopped on the internet, called his employer, and sent out unintelligible texts messages to his friends as well. He's changed the bedsheets, peed in water bottles, fed the cats cans of tuna from the kitchen, and handled knives. Tonight, he even applied my tens unit to his chest! Good thing I caught him in time, else he could have sent his heart into an arrhythmia! I can find the humor in it, but this is really scary. No matter what I do, I can't seem to wake him! He stays up for more than an hour, and I have to watch him every minute to keep him from doing something dangerous. Plus, he never remembers any of it in the morning! He wakes up feeling refreshed and well, whilst I'm baggy-eyed and exhausted from babysitting him all night. Anyhow, I'm glad I found this forum. If nothing else, at least I have a way to vent my frustrations and share stories. It is nice to know I'm not alone! Any thoughts or advice helps!
Re: Husband is Sleep Drinking - HELP!Hello, I was just searching The net for Help myself, when i came across Your post and wondered if You had discovered anything that can be done about this type of Behaviour?
I myself sleepwalk, but the last incedent involed me Drinking half a bottle of Gin and going back to bed. I remember nothing of this You understand, but woke feeling Horrible and sick, missed my feet, and face dived into the Carpet. When I realised what i had done, I spoke to my GP, and was refered to a 'sleep specialist' who could only offer me Antidepressants and was convinced he was speaking to an alchoholic. (i'm not) But i do need help, and any information you have would be most Greatfuly Recieved, Thank You Jamie.
