Is this sleepwalking? What is happeneing to me

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri May 10, 2002 12:58 am

I have always talked in my sleep or done some odd quirky things when I am stressed and have never thought much of it. Something happened tonight which disturbed me. It doesn't seem like it would be sleepwalking because I can remember it clearly. I had taken a nap after work...The next thing I remember was opening my eyes and looking at the clock was 9 (in the morning I thought), I thought the clock had messed up I went looking for my husband but I couldn't find him. I finally went running outside but that is when I "woke up" and went back inside. I don't know if I was asleep or half awake. It was bizarre. When you sleepwalk you don't remember afterwards....Why do I remember all of this? Was I not really asleep but half asleep? I once had an episode where I was in the kitchen with a knife and was hysterical, I remember waking from that disoriented but not remembering much about what happened...that was a few years ago. I am scared that I'll start sleep walking and wander away...but then I am not sure I was sleep walking. Does anyone have any clue on what could have been happening to me? should I be concerned about this behavior??

There are times when someone can be in and out of sleep, what we call a sleep dissociated state or confusional arousal. It is similar to what you describe and generally these can be worsened by sleep deprivation or psychological stress. Although it can be frightening, most of the time it resolves on its own with good sleep habits.
