Sleep Anxiety

Post a new topicby Guest on Thu Jan 31, 2002 8:08 pm

For quite a few years I've had a re-occuring dreaming/sleepwalking experience. I become aware that there are people I know in my bedroom and feeling extremely anxious and self-concious I get up, go to my bureau and begin putting on more clothing. At this point I wake up, realize that I'm out of bed and that there is no one else in my house except my husband, who is fast asleep. Sometimes I find myself in other parts of my house. I never remember what I've been dreaming about.
This usually happens to me 2 or 3 times a week. As a child I sleepwalked only a few times that I'm aware of.
I also grind my teeth to the point that I had to go to physical therapy when my jaw locked and now wear a rubber guard in my mouth at night, on occasion, to prevent myself from gnashing my teeth.
I am at wit's end...

sleep walking can be provoked by psychological stress and sleep deprivation. One of the best approaches to therapy for this is to increase the amount of sleep time to 8 or more hours per night. Also, getting help for any underlying stress can be beneficial. A sleep physician or psychologist should be able to help.
