sleeping around

Post a new topicby Guest on Sat Aug 03, 2002 6:43 pm

I have been in the Navy for just over a year now. I have been experiencing some rather odd behaviors according to my roommate. A little over a month ago I woke up in the TV lounge of a hotel I was staying at. I have read that drug abuse and alcohol can increase the likelihood of sleepwalking. I haven't had a drink since entering the military. Last night I knocked my computer monitor off of my desk and onto my foot. I had to play dumb at the doctor because I will be discharged ASAP if it is discovered. What should I do? Are there alternative remedies? What is the medical process for examining my problem? I don't know what to do.

Anything that disrupts your sleep can bring out sleepwalking, not just alcohol. It may be that you are sleep deprived for some reason. The best approach is to start with healthy sleep habits--no caffeine, no alcohol, no tobacco, no heavy meals before bedtime, no major exercise within 3 hours of bedtime, get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. If these measures do not help, there are medications to help suppress the sleep walking but it is better to start with the good sleep habits.
