Sleepwalking in 8 year old

Post a new topicby Guest on Mon Jan 14, 2002 4:02 pm

My 8 year old daughter sleepwalks quite a bit. Last night was the first night in over a week that she didn't sleepwalk. She'll typically walk up to our room and say something like "Do you know where that thing is?" Of course, I have no idea what she's talking about so I just walk her back to her room and she falls back to sleep. She'll oftentimes sleepwalk 2-3 nights in a row and then not do it again for about a month, but this past week it was every night sometimes 2 or 3 times a night. I asked her if something at school was bothering her and she said "no" and wasn't hesitant to go to school at all. She had a twin sister who was killed 5 years ago and the anniversary of her death was this past week so I was thinking it could have something to do with that. Is this something I should be concerned with when it happens this frequently? Thank you for your time.

sleepwalking is a normal occurance and can be brought on by psychological stress(anniversary of a death) or sleep deprivation. Keeping her out of harm's way and gently coaxing her back to sleep is appropriate. Most children grow out of it after a few years.
