Sleepwalking problemI have had sleepwalking episodes all my life so I never thought much about it. I am now 32 and am having them nightly. I usually do things such as tear apart the bed or mess with our electronic equipment such as computer, tv/remote, stereo etc,. I also do a lot of talking and sometimes I am terrified about something. My husband has tried to stop me and i have woken up in his arms with my heart pounding and I'm sweating. I have done a few dangerous things like finding a burning candle downstairs - where others are still awake and spill it on myself. I also went outside a few times as a child. I just started researching this because i have 2 small children now and have actually taken the baby out of the crib and walked around with her. I am worried it is out of control. What do you suggest I do?
Re: Sleepwalking problemSleep walking is a normal condition that is made worse by psychological stress and sleep deprivation. The first approach to therapy for this is to make sure the patient is getting enough sleep and good sleep. He/she needs to get off all caffeine and alcohol or other substances that could be disrupting sleep. Also, a search for underlying stresses is helpful. If the above does not work a sleep specialist may be able to help do a more detailed evaluation and come up with specific recommendations for you.
